The day began at the elegant Westin Kansas City at Crown Center, transformed into a bustling bookish haven. By 8:00 a.m., the ballroom was alive with excitement as over 30 authors and 29 bookish vendors filled the space with tales, treasures, and trinkets from fantastical realms.

From handmade jewelry by Darling Embers to on-site bookish tattoos, the vendor lineup was nothing short of magical. Readers browsed towering stacks of signed books, sipped coffee, and chatted with their favorite authors in a warm, enchanted atmosphere.

Highlights:

• Parkville Coffee greeted guests in the foyer with rich, aromatic brews.

• A dazzling spread of cakes, cookies, and possibly the most divine gluten-free blueberry scone ever tasted graced the market tables.

• Unique fandom apparel, art prints, bookmarks, and candles beckoned from every corner.

By 2:00 p.m., hearts were full, tote bags were bursting, and a collective buzz lingered in the air. But the magic was far from over.

From 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., attendees disappeared into a flurry of preparation—gathering gowns, painting glitter across their cheeks, and stepping into their evening personas.

This wasn’t just a break—it was a transformation.

Glittering crowns, flame-inspired gowns, fae wings, and velvet cloaks emerged from closets and suitcases. The energy shifted from casual to cosmic as everyone prepared for a night that would blur the lines between fantasy and reality.

Greeting guests at the door? A stunning flame baton twirler, her blazing art carving warmth and light into the night sky—a perfect opening to what would become a spellbinding evening.

Inside, attendees were welcomed with signature drinks and immersed in a world bursting with creativity. Ten high-profile bookish cosplayers roamed the venue, their character portrayals so vivid, it was as if the stories themselves had stepped into our world.

At 7:00 p.m., the grand theater doors swung open—and we stepped into another world.

Gone was the traditional theater space. In its place stood a realm reborn: Lights cascaded like falling stars, hidden coves revealed themed photo ops, and everywhere you turned, gowns swirled and gems glittered beneath a kaleidoscope of color.

The Stage Came Alive:

• A sensual, spellbinding burlesque performance by Kansas City Burlesque enchanted the crowd.

• Aerialists flew high above us, suspended in grace like winged dreams.

• A jaw-dropping light show made the walls pulse with life.

• A surprise engagement on stage brought tears and cheers from over 1,000 onlookers.

And then came the DJ—positioned in one of the historic VIP boxes. Like a musical puppeteer, he controlled the rhythm of the room, moving the crowd with hypnotic precision. Smoke rolled in waves, confetti exploded, and dancers with glowing wings brought a final crescendo of magic to the stage.

With emotion in her voice, she shared her story: Her mother, a cancer survivor, was told she’d never have children. But fate had other plans. That miracle child—now an author and co-creator of this magnificent event—grew up to build a world of her own, inspired by her fantasy series, The Dark Throne Society.

The crowd fell silent. Then, as if moved by a single heartbeat, rose in unified applause.

It was in this moment we realized: this event wasn’t just about fantasy—it was about resilience, rebirth, and the fire of creativity that refuses to die.
